Manufactured from a continuous woven glass fabric base saturated with a melamine resin binder, G5/G9 Melamine Tubing is recognized as the hardest among common laminate materials. It offers excellent dimensional stability and notable resistance to electrical arcing, in addition to possessing good resistance to caustic substances.

The G9 grade material conforms to MIL-I-24768/1, Type GME specifications, while the G5 grade adheres to MIL-I-24768/8, Type GMG. Although the characteristics of these two melamine grades are quite similar, G9 exhibits enhanced resilience in harsh environmental conditions compared to G5. Consequently, G9 can typically serve as a suitable replacement for G5 in most applications.

Featuring high mechanical strength coupled with outstanding arc resistance and electrical insulation properties, G9 material is frequently utilized for mechanical support roles. Common applications include components within electrical equipment, switchgear assemblies, and slot wedges where Class B insulation standards are necessary.

Among thermoset laminates, Melamine stands out due to its exceptional hardness, resulting in superior stability and rigidity. Furthermore, the G9 grade demonstrates resistance against a wide range of harsh chemicals. The maximum continuous operating temperature for G9 material is rated at 285°F (approximately 140°C).

(Note: Once cured, melamine resins provide the highest hardness, rigidity, and abrasion resistance among standard industrial laminate resins. However, their mechanical and electrical strength can be negatively impacted by prolonged exposure to high temperatures, although arc resistance might not be significantly affected.)

In summary, melamine laminates are characterized by their hardness, good dimensional stability, and arc resistance, along with caustic resistance. A primary distinction between NEMA Grades G5 and G9 lies in G9's superior environmental resistance, making it a safe substitute for G5 where specified. (Relevant Standards: NEMA G-5 corresponds to MIL-I-24768/8 GMG, IEC 60893-3 Type 3 MF GC 201; NEMA G-9 corresponds to MIL-I-24768/1 GME).

Custom G5/G9 Melamine Tubes are available with inner diameters (ID) ranging from 4.5mm to 70mm, and wall thicknesses starting at 0.5mm. Additional processing options such as slotting, tapering, and hole drilling are offered upon request (etc.). These tubes find wide application in medium and low voltage systems, including various types of fuses (e.g., for new energy electric vehicles, fast-acting fuses, time-delay fuses, charging piles, photovoltaic solar systems), 5G communication equipment, and oil-immersed transformers, among others. G9/G5 melamine tubing represents an excellent choice for applications within these size ranges and sectors.
